This book presents, with commentary, the Stridhamapaddhati, the only extant Sanskrit treatise to address women's place and role in society. Written in the 18th century by an orthodox Hindu pandit at the court of Tanjore, it represents the norms and views of the complex, highly intellectual, socio-religious tradition of Hinduism at a crucial period in history.
