Description
Students doing a degree in the biological sciences need to know some mathematics. This book motivates those at a pre-calculus or 'O' level starting point to produce a more analytical description of results represented graphically or in tables. This leads to a description of the more common mathematical functions & their graphs with differential calculus arising from the interpretation of the slope of a graph & integral calculus from the area below a graph, developing finally into the modeling of biological problems in terms of differential equations & the solutions of these equations.nThroughout the text the mathematics is applied to the biological sciences & numerous exercises in this area occur at the end of each section. Where appropriate simple numerical techniques are included & some short computer programs are given
