Description
A collection of essays that charts the borderland between falsehood and fiction in the ancient world, particularly by considering how far "lying" was distinguished from "fiction" at different periods and in different genres. Areas included are early Greek poetry, Plato, Greek and Roman historiography, and the Greek and Roman novel. Most of the essays are revised versions of papers presented at a colloquium held at the U. of Exeter in April 1991. Annotation copyright Book News, Inc. Portland, Or.
