The main purpose of this book is to enable bird-watchers in Ceylon to identify the 400 species which are to be seen in the Island, but the author has also provided a framework of general information on which to accumulate further knowledge. The differences between Ceylonese and Indian subspecies are usually slight and the book will thus also be found serviceable as a guide to most of the common birds of India.
